The Big 12 conference is known for its awesome football and great traditions, and they have some of the best fan turnouts in the entire country. Here are the best college football stadiums in the Big 12.
10. Kansas – Memorial Stadium
With a capacity of a little over 50,000 Kanas cannot afford to have any letdown in fan turnout. Recently, their home record has been not great (filled to 68% capacity last season), and that has hurt revenue. What they must do is get their football program back on track so the fans have something to cheer about (and revenue wouldn’t hurt either).
9. TCU – Amon Carter Stadium
Just like Kansas, TCU has a pretty small stadium only seating around 45,000. And, just like Kansas, they need to make sure the die hard fans stay happy. This season, the Frogs realize that each filled seat is precious. But regardless of how many seats are filled, rest assured that each one is a good view.
8. Iowa State – Jack Trice Stadium
It’s funny how the Cyclones of recent years have had drops in attendance, but still rank higher than many stadiums in the country. Their record was very poor in 2015, but they still had better attendance than Arizona, who did well last year. They’ve got some die hard fans.
7. Baylor – McLane Stadium
I wouldn’t be surprised if attendance this season drops from 2015. Baylor has great fans, but the offseason turmoil has Baylor in a media tailspin. How they will recover quickly from this is beyond me, but the stadium has good seats and a loud crowd usually.
6. West Virginia – Milan Puskar Stadium
Now I start to get to the good ones. West Virginia is showing #7-10 how to fill up the seats and bring some revenue in. The crowds are loud and really into what’s going on the field. Their attendance went up more than 5% from the previous year. Great place to be in attendance on a fall Saturday afternoon.
5. Kansas State – Bill Snyder Family Stadium
Another great stadium with raucous crowds with a passion for their favorite team, this stadium operates at over 105% of its capacity each home game. They are die hard fans in Jayhawk land, and that’s great for a stadium that only lists its capacity at 50,000. It’s just a fun and energy charged atmosphere.
4. Texas Tech – Jones AT&T Stadium
This is one of the bigger stadiums in the Big 12. They were ranked 29th in the nation in attendance in 2015 and actually saw a slight increase in their attendance. The atmosphere just screams college football.
3. Oklahoma State – Boone Pickens Stadium
This is a tough place for anyone to play, the Cowboys boast a stunning 21-4 home record in the past four years, and that makes anyone sit up straight and take notice. Their attendance has dropped recently, but those that show up here have a lot of fun, and it’s fun to watch. It’s also one of the oldest on the West side of the Mississippi.
2. Texas – Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium
There is just no way I could not have Texas in the top two, because these two teams really signify the conference. Texas has the biggest capacity in the Big 12 with over 100,000 packing in the seats. They have plans to make the stadium even bigger, trying to reach around 110,000.
1. Oklahoma – Memorial Stadium
Overall the best place to watch a college football game in the Big 12. Great football with a great atmosphere. Watching a home game is a treat at Oklahoma.
